Branding work and design lead for Sam Brew’s EP ‘Angel Dust’ as Icarus. Initial client brief referenced a photo card as the key concept for the singles but little else beyond that. This idea was transformed through physical collages of images and elements designed in photoshop to create the hand-crafted look for singles ‘Crybaby’ and ‘How Does It Feel?’.
For the main EP cover, the initial pitch involved sketches of Sam atop an everyday car, and emphasised that any graphic elements for the final product would be kept to a minimum and all round only very simple in comparison to the maximalist approach of the single covers. The artist executed the concept with a team and photographer in Melbourne and the final product above was the end result. A cleaned up photo with Photoshop processing akin to the treatments used for the photos in the collages of the Single Covers, and a watermark peering out from behind a cutout of the artist.
Additional material created for the rollout campaign included promo visuals which saw frames of a looping visual printed and scanned before being turned back into a video creating a stuttering almost stop-motion effect. As well as this various promotional and event posters for social media were created, a tracklist for the 4 song EP, and motion graphic visuals for the launch show that were projected over the artist during performance.
